Audi, a division of Volkswagen, and Hyundai have partnered on fuel cell technology development. Hyundai is arguably one of the world’s leaders in hydrogen fuel cell technology for automotive and VW is similarly advanced in its own HCFV designs. The partnership largely consists of cross-licensing for patents and non-competitive components access.
Pending regulatory approval, the agreement will allow the two companies to collaborate in order to build fuel cell volume production to maturity more quickly. Audi and Hyundai have also said that they are in talks to explore more far-reaching collaboration in this vein.
