BMW will co-premier to new alternative-fueled vehicles at the Legends of the Autobahn in Pacific Grove, California and The BMW Championship in Olympia Fields, Illinois. These unveilings include the new i5 M60 xDrive battery-electric sedan and the iX5 Hydrogen fuel cell sport utility.
The i5 M60 xDrive is the first all-electric 5 Series sedan from BMW. Based on the current eighth-generation 5, the i5 M60 combines a 590 horsepower drivetrain with M Performance design features. Its 0-60 mph sprint time is 3.7 seconds with a maximum speed of 143 mph on performance tires (130 mph on all-seasons). Base price for the i5 M60 will be $81,400 plus delivery with production coming for the 2024 model year.
The BMW iX5 Hydrogen is based on the hydrogen fuel cell concept X5 introduced in 2019. Two high-pressure tanks store hydrogen in the X5: one under the rear seat, one under the center console. The system produces 168-396 horsepower (as demand requires) via an electric motor at the rear axle. The iX5 that will be displayed at Legends of the Autobahn is one of a small fleet of FCEV prototype vehicles BMW has on the road in the U.S.
