Cadillac Shows Off First EV, More to Come

Cadillac unveiled it’s first electric vehicle prototype at the Detroit Auto Show (formerly the North American International Auto Show or NAIAS). General Motors announced that Cadillac will be the vanguard of the company’s move towards an all-electric future.

The EV Cadillac is just a pre-production prototype for now and has no formal name, but debuts the company’s planned platform for electrified vehicles going forward. The drive units and battery cells are the most advanced components within the platform, Cadillac said, and are configurable in front-wheel, rear-wheel, and all-wheel drive. Battery systems are adjustable to meet varied needs.

“Cadillac’s EV will hit the heart of the crossover market and meet the needs of customers around the world,” said Steve Carlisle, president of Cadillac. “It will represent the height of luxury and innovation while positioning Cadillac as the pinnacle of mobility.”

Cadillac plans to launch new products at the rate of two per year through 2021.
