Plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) sales were mostly in compact-sized and midsized cars (42%, 40%). Over 347,000 hbrid electric vehicles were sold in 2016 of those those, 75 percent were midsize cars.
More than half of all lightweight vehicles sold in the U.S. were sport utilities, trucks, and vans.
