DOE Says EV Sales More Mixed Than Expected

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, the largest share of battery-electric vehicle (EV) sales in 2016 were large cars and sport utility vehicles, making of 35 percent and 23 percent respectively. Plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) sales were mostly in compact-sized and midsized cars (42%, 40%). Over 347,000 hbrid electric vehicles were sold in 2016 of those those, 75 percent were midsize cars.

More than half of all lightweight vehicles sold in the U.S. were sport utilities, trucks, and vans.
