McKinsey’s article explores how extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs) could help accelerate EV adoption by reducing range anxiety and cost concerns. EREVs use a small internal combustion engine to recharge the battery, offering longer electric driving ranges than plug-in hybrids.

A McKinsey survey found significant consumer interest in EREVs, particularly among buyers hesitant about full BEVs. However, better consumer education is needed to clarify the distinctions between EV options.
