Mercedes-Benz has announced pricing for the upcoming eSprinter electric utility van. It will launch with the 170-inch wheelbase cargo version with a high-roof configuration. Battery is 113 kWh with a range of about 250 miles per charge. Pricing begins at $71,886 plus fees.
The eSprinter utilizes a lithium-iron phosphate battery that eliminates the use of cobalt and nickel, improving durability. The battery is capable of charging at up to 9.6 kW at Level 2 and 50 kW at DC fast charging. An optional upgrade improves DC fast charging to 115 kW. The latter provides 10 percent to 80 percent charging in about 40 minutes.
New in the Mercedes-Benz eSprinter is a permanent magnet synchronous motor, which weighs less than brushless equivalents, is designed for optimal thermal management and efficiency. Two power levels, 100 and 150 kW of peak output, are available for the motor. Peak torque is 295 pound-feet with either option. The motor sits atop a newly-developed rear axle made specifically for battery-electric applications.
Other efficiencies in the eSprinter include pre-entry climate control to set interior climate while the van is plugged in to charge to improve efficiency once unplugged and driving. This can also be triggered while on the road, keeping the cabin at a specific temp even while parked. This is ideal for short-term stops such as deliveries or breaks. In addition, a heated driver’s seat is standard and heated steering is optional.
The Mercedes-Benz eSprinter van can be upfit with most eXpertUpfitter options, including shelving, mobile workshop, flooring, etc.
