V4Smart GmbH & Co. KG, formerly V4Drive Battery GmbH and now majority-owned by Porsche AG, has unveiled its Generation 2 High Energy & Power cell, expanding its portfolio beyond the ultra-high-power V21700 UHP-26 cell used in the Porsche 911 Carrera GTS.
The new 18650-format cell, verified by BATEMO, delivers 3.7 Ah capacity, 277 Wh/kg (757 Wh/l) energy density, and 2.73 kW/kg (7.47 kW/l) power density. Its flagship variant, the V21700 HP-5X, offers higher energy content in a different form factor. Performance gains come from a silicon-based anode using Group14 Technologies’ SCC55 material and a tabless design that reduces resistance and improves thermal management.
Targeted for high-performance applications in automotive, aerospace, power tools, and other demanding sectors, the Generation 2 cell reinforces V4Smart’s “Designed, Developed, and Made in Germany” focus. The company has expanded production at its Nördlingen, Germany facility to meet growing demand, continuing its legacy as a VARTA-derived innovator in high-power cylindrical lithium-ion cells.
