ReVolt Motors will show its first hybrid drivetrain retrofit at the upcoming Mid-America Trucking Show. The series hybrid design boasts about 40 percent fuel savings utilizing a Peterbilt Model 379. ReVolt claims to be the only U.S.-based company offering a hybrid drivetrain that doesn’t compromise performance.
“Drivers should not have to choose between losing their longtime routes because of changing regulatory environments or losing the truck in which they have already made significant investments,” said Gus Gardner, ReVolt Motors founder and CEO. “American truckers want their trucks to reflect their identity, and our retrofit technology allows them to continue driving the trucks they love while still making a living.”
The drivetrain is capable of all-electric operations for short distances at city speeds. System output is 670 horsepower and 3,500 lb-ft of torque. The test truck for ReVolt’s drivetrain targets 12 mpg in highway economy. Gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) for the 379 with ReVolt’s hybrid system is 13,000 pounds. On-board batteries are charged via regenerative braking (which works like engine braking) and through excess power generation from the engine.
The Mid-America show runs March 27-29 in Louisville, Kentucky.
