The Chevrolet Bolt Returns In 2027

After being discontinued in early 2023, the Chevrolet Bolt is returning with a bold mission: deliver a compelling, affordable electric vehicle for everyday drivers. Chevrolet calls it a “limited run” model, so if this sparks your interest, you may want to act fast.

Powertrain & Efficiency

  • The 2027 Bolt is powered by a new X76 drive unit, designed in-house by GM, and optimized for greater efficiency.
  • It uses a 65 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, bringing enhanced stability, longevity, and lower cost compared to previous battery chemistries.
  • The estimated driving range is 255 miles (GM estimate) — giving it the best range in its price class (i.e. EVs under $30,000).

Charging & Connectivity

  • DC fast charging capability is a big jump: up to 150 kW peak output, which enables a 10–80% charge in around 26 minutes.
  • This Bolt is also the first Chevrolet with a native NACS charging port, meaning it can directly access Tesla’s Supercharger network.
  • It supports bidirectional (vehicle-to-home / V2H) charging (when paired with appropriate home systems) — so it can potentially power your home in outages.

Exterior & Trim Options

  • The overall silhouette retains the familiar look of the previous Bolt EUV, but comes with refreshed front and rear styling, new grille details, and updated lighting.
  • Chevrolet introduces a sportier RS trim for the first time, complete with unique badging, blacked-out accents, and available bold color options.

Cabin & Controls

  • Inside, you’ll find an 11.3-inch infotainment touchscreen (running Google Built-In) and an 11.0-inch digital driver display.
  • The system includes built-in Google apps and navigation (with route planning, charging station integration, etc.).
  • Chevy retains some physical controls (e.g. for climate, volume) for ease of use.
  • Storage and layout have been refined — a new open console, revised shifter, and enhanced passenger dash storage contribute to a more usable space.

Safety & Driver Assistance

  • Over 20 standard safety and driver assistance features are included, such as Intersection Collision Mitigation, Rear Automatic Braking, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert with Braking.
  • Super Cruise (GM’s hands-free driving aid) is available, now with automatic lane-change support and improved integration with navigation.

Price, Availability & Strategy

  • The launch model Bolt LT starts at $29,990 (including destination / freight).
  • Later in the model year, a more affordable 1LT trim will arrive, priced at $28,995.
  • An RS trim with extra features (tech package, sunroof, sport styling) can go up to around $35,685.
  • The 2027 Bolt will begin shipping early 2026, built in Kansas.
  • Despite the full launch, Chevrolet emphasizes that this is a limited-run model, suggesting production or sales will not be indefinite.

Chevrolet sees the Bolt and the Equinox EV as core drivers of its EV sales in 2026, reinforcing its push into the affordable EV segment.
