Startup truck maker Thor Trucks has announced its Class 8 semi-truck prototype, the ET-One. Targeted at short-haul markets, the ET-One is an 80,000-pound-capable tractor configured to pull standard semi-trailer combinations.
The ET-One offers battery pack options up to 1 MWh to support ranges of up to 300 miles per charge. Powertrain options are also configurable, ranging from 300 to 700 horsepower. Pricing will begin at $150,000 and run to $250,000, depending on configurations. Fleet demonstrations are currently underway to interested buyers.
Thor uses a cylindrical lithium-ion battery cell format to leverage energy density and is keeping a close eye on new battery tech that could allow for more rapid charging or longer ranges and is ready to adapt any new tech to its platform.
