Toyota unveiled the new Crown model in 2022 in several body styles. Today, the Crown Sedan model launched in Japan with production beginning on November 13.
The Crown Sedan will include gasoline-powered as well as hydrogen-electric and gasoline-electric hybrids.
The hybrid model combines a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with two motors and stepped gearing. Maximum output comes at 43 km/h instead of 140 km/h, which is the usual on most systems. The hybrid system works to keep engine revolutions lower at higher speeds to maximize fuel economy.
The fuel cell model uses the FCEV system from the Toyota Mirai, giving the Crown a 820 kilometer range.
