Volvo Cars has announced that the final diesel-powered passenger vehicle in its line will be produced in early 2024. The company is transitioning to an all-electric fleet by 2040 and is planning gasoline-electric and battery-electric models going forward.
This follows Volvo selling its stake in Aurobay, a joint venture for combustion engine development, which marked the end of Volvo’s work in new combustion designs.
“Electric powertrains are our future, and superior to combustion engines: they generate less noise, less vibration, less servicing costs for our customers and zero tailpipe emissions. We’re fully focused on creating a broad portfolio of premium, fully electric cars that deliver on everything our customers expect from a Volvo – and are a key part of our response to climate change.” –Jim Rowan, Chief Executive at Volvo Cars
