Isuzu Motors and Honda Motor will be exhibiting the new Giga Fuel Cell truck they’ve been co-developing. The truck will be at the Japan Mobility Show 2023, marking the first time that the prototype has been shown to the general public. The show opens on October 28.
The Giga Fuel Cell project has been ongoing since 2020 when the two companies signed a joint research agreement. The two companies are currently planning to start demonstration testing of a prototype model on public roads before the end of the current fiscal year (ending 31 March 2024) and to introduce the production model to the market in 2027 by fully leveraging the technology, experience and knowledge gained through the joint research.
The Giga Fuel Cell model to be displayed is a Lowdeck 8×4 rigid truck configuration popular in Japan for intercity transport. It has a range of about 500 miles and refills its hydrogen tanks in minutes. It can also serve as a mobile power station when needed.
